“A little south in your mouth.” That’s the motto at The Cheddar Biscuit in Bloomingdale, a local restaurant specializing in southern comfort foods.
If you’re looking for a home-cooked meal just like mom used to make, then this is the place for you. That is, if mom’s grits were a little too salty and her country fried steak a little overdone. The Cheddar Biscuit is not the best southern style food I’ve ever had, but it is the only restaurant of its type in the Bloomingdale area. And, the price is right with each meal around $10.
This is an order and sit menu, and the service was plenty friendly. I had the pot roast, with broccoli casserole and mashed potatoes. Hubby had the country fired steak with grits, and potatoes. Each was served with a slightly overcooked cheddar biscuit. Both meals were good for a quick home-style meal without the mess of cleaning up. The food wasn’t bad, and there was plenty of it. There just wasn’t anything special about it that left me wanting to rush back.
Overall, not a bad meal, but with all the great places to eat in the area, they may need to add a little flair to make this one work. If you’re in the area and don’t feel like cooking, give it a try, but don’t go out of your way for it.
