I had a craving for some really good pizza today, and I knew right where I was heading!
Babe’s Pizza in Brandon is home of the Double Decker Pizza. What’s a Double Decker pizza you ask? The Double Decker is a layers on layers of deliciousness, and Babe’s has been doing it for over 30 years.

One of our favorite places to go to eat in Tampa is Mr. Dunderbak’s. This is not the little Dunderbak’s you knew in University Mall. Okay, well, technically it is, but it’s all grown up now, and no longer in the mall. This is a plus for the restaurant in itself, because University Mall is not a place I want to go to dine, or really, even shop.
Mr. Dunderbak’s is now located on Bruce B. Downs in New Tampa. It is a nice large location with 2 bars, a private room, outside seats, and a full stock of beers from around the world. If you’re looking for a good place to have a beer and chill with friends, just pull up a bench in this german bier garten.

Longhorn Steakhouse has generously donated another $15 Gift Card so that a Taming Tampa reader can experience their new “Flavorful Under 500 Calories” menu.
A lot of people use the beginning of the year as a time to start dieting, and eating healthier. Eating healthier doesn’t mean your food can’t taste good. Let me tell you, these menu items at Longhorn may say they are under 500 calories each, but they are so good, they taste like a million calories!
Hubby and I recently tried meals from the Flavorful under 500 Calories menu at Longhorn. I had the Rainbow trout with steamed vegetables, and he had the sirloin with green beans and a side salad with raspberry vinaigrette. It’s hard to believe that each of these meals were under 500 calories because they were plenty flavorful and we left plenty full!

“A little south in your mouth.” That’s the motto at The Cheddar Biscuit in Bloomingdale, a local restaurant specializing in southern comfort foods.
If you’re looking for a home-cooked meal just like mom used to make, then this is the place for you. That is, if mom’s grits were a little too salty and her country fried steak a little overdone. The Cheddar Biscuit is not the best southern style food I’ve ever had, but it is the only restaurant of its type in the Bloomingdale area. And, the price is right with each meal around $10.

Hubby and I recently tried the New Longhorn Steakhouse Lunch Combinations, and we were more than pleased! Not only is the price right with Lunch combinations starting at $7.99, but the service was great, and the food was delicious!
I’m not sure why, but, it had been a couple of years since I was last at Longhorn, and I’m certain it wasn’t for lunch. I have to say a Steakhouse is not usually a place I would think of for lunch, but I will now. The new lunch menu includes soup and salad or sandwich soup combinations as well as other options.
On Saturday, I was doing some shopping in Brandon, when I discovered a new coffee shop.
Sips News Cafe is a quaint little coffee shop offering all your favorite cappuccino, lattes, and free Wi-Fi. Located right next to AMC Regency Theaters, it’s the perfect place to meet up with friends before catching a movie.
My daughter and I were greeted by the friendly staff that quickly explained that a “Sippuccino” is their version of the popular “Frappuccino” at Starbucks. He told us all the flavors they offer and bragged of how good they are. It was a hot day, and with a recommendation like that, how could I resist?!
My daughter ordered the vanilla Sippuccino and I opted for the Maple Cinnamon version. They were both perfectly blended, delightfully flavored, and quickly helped to cool the Florida heat.
This was a good find. It was nice coffee with friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere. The only down side is the location. With the difficulty of finding parking at Regency, I don’t see it becoming a destination, but it makes a nice compliment to the movies or shopping. Hopefully that will bring enough traffic to sustain this friendly little coffee shop.

One of my main goals of learning to truly live and enjoy where I live, is to start experiencing the little gems of the Tampa Bay area, including the smaller restaurants. After an illness kept me in the house for almost 2 weeks, I was ready to get out for a bit, and I was hungry for some good food.
My husband and I set out on Saturday for a late 3:00 lunch. Our goal was to try The Oaks Bar and Grill at 108 Lithia Pinecrest Rd. Brandon, FL. The Oaks looks welcoming with its sunny yellow paint and wooden deck, sitting in the shadow of an old grandfather oak tree. The sign outside says it’s the home of the half pound grouper sandwich, something I was looking forward to trying.
We parked the car and went inside to find that a local meeting of Steelers backers was assembled. The sign read “Please wait to be seated”, so we did.
We waited and waited, and as we waited I looked around to see that there were many empty tables. So, what were we waiting on? Someone announced on the microphone that the Steelers were going to have a great season, and some fans walked by us. Another few minutes went by, and after waiting almost 10 minutes with not even an acknowledgement of our arrival, we turned and walked back out the door which we came in.
Lucky for us, Brandon, Florida does not lack for restaurants, so we quickly found another place to eat.
I guess I’ll never know if the “Famous 1/2 lb grouper sandwich” is any good at The Oaks because you must “wait to be Seated” and I’m not willing to wait that long without at least a “hello.”
My review of The Oaks Bar and Grill: Inside not as welcoming as the outside, and the food quality remains a mystery.
